There is no faster way to piss off a client then not showing up on time and there is no excuse when you are a consultant because you are the one that proposes what time you will show up for the most part. So it’s doubly retarded when you don’t give yourself enough time to get where you need to be or you flake out. Now sometimes there is just nothing you can do to avoid being late. Maybe another client calls that is worth 30k and there is nothing you can do but drop everything get over there to plug in that power cord they kicked out of the wall. But if for some reason you are going to be late, call, and when you call, have a good damn reason for being late. If you can, explain the situation, and reschedule. This gives you yet another opportunity to SHOW UP ON TIME.

I have been hacking on a little app running on Google App Engine on and off for the past couple of days. I showed it to a couple of people at the GAE hackathon in San Francisco Friday night and some people really did see the potential for how huge this is going to be! Really it’s going to be huge! Anyway I have published the first version. It is incomplete, missing features and easy to abuse. Tremble at the glory that is magicbeef.com but resist the urge to upload porn because honestly the moderation system is just not there.

The little project I have been working on has hit minor roadblock that requires I exclude some planned features for now. The issue is that there are no image manipulation libraries available that runs on Google App Engine (GAE) yet. Image libraries always have compiled C extension since manipulating images is something that pure Python code just can’t do fast enough to be useful. For security reasons GAE won’t allow most libraries with compiled C to run. The big one for python called Python Imaging Library (PIL) from PythonWare.

There is an open feature request for PIL support to be added to GAE and if you are at all interested working with images on GAE please go and log in to the bug tracker and star the that issue.
